On a beautiful fall afternoon, the Dutchess Day School Cross Country Team had its first competition in front of students and parents enjoying a very successful Fall Social. Our team competed against the Maplebrook School's team. Two races were scheduled, with runners completing a number of laps of the field depending on whether they were running in the one mile or five kilometer race (one lap of the field = 0.508 mile). The runners were instructed to pace themselves and run easy. They all started too fast, a common mistake of all new runners in competitions. They did not stop, however, demonstrating the true spirit of our team. The times below show how successful they were.
