JV Volleyball report for game v Rumsey on Thursday Feb 26th, 2009

The JV Volleyball team wrapped up their season Thursday, 2/26/09 with a well-fought match against Rumsey. After a slow start with the first game, the players came back strong getting all but one serve over the net in the second game. Unfortunately their defense slipped a little trying to return Rumsey's powerful serves.
The third game was the charm and the players summoned both their strong offense and defense outscoring Rumsey 25 to 18. Both Hailey Conger and Hannah Hill had excellent serving streaks.
The final game found the teams neck to neck as the scores climbed. The players showed very good movement on the court and communication with teammates. Rumsey ended up getting to 25 first in a close loss of 23 to 25.
It has been a successful season and the students have shown nice improvement with their skills. They will be helping at the faculty/parent vs. varsity game on Monday and celebrating the season with a pizza party following at Four Brothers

Varsity Voleyball Reports for the second half of the winter season.

Varsity Volleyball Report

The varsity volleyball team continued their winning ways in the second half of the season. DDS played Rumsey twice on Rumsey’s home turf, and bested them in both matches.
In the first match, the team’s serving continued to be a challenge for their opponent to return. Scoring was a team effort, with several players contributing points. Aleksa Lambert had 14 points for the match, Maddie Olson had 4 points, Eddie Castillo had 16 points, and Alexa Colangelo had 7 points. Rumsey struggled to return the volleys that DDS consistently sent their way. The final result was 25-13, 25-12, and 25-12, match to Dutchess Day.
In the final match with Rumsey, Dutchess Day found a much improved Rumsey team. Rumsey was returning DDS serves and trying constantly to set up a spike on its possessions. DDS answered with their own heightened efforts to do the same, and in the end, the varsity’s serving still overpowered the improved Rumsey team. Eddie Castillo contributed 17 points to the match, as did Aleksa Lambert, and Paige Reifler contributed 3 points. Delaney Bailey, Kayleigh Jones, and Alexa Colangelo played well on defense, while Eddie Castillo played strong offense at the net. The final score was 25-14, 25-18, and 25-16, match to DDS.
In their final match of the season, the DDS varsity volleyball players traveled to Westover to challenge a high school team. Despite the height advantage that Westover had, the Dutchess players continued to hustle around the court and make great plays during volleys. Many of the players contributed to the scores with their serving. Alexa Colangelo, A DDS volleyball captain, scored 15 points with her serve, while the other DDS captain, Paige Reifler, contributed 10 points. Kayleigh Jones, an eighth grader playing in her last volleyball game for DDS, scored 13 points. Aleksa Lambert helped the effort with 6 points and Hannah Hill added four more points. The entire team played well, with kudos to Delaney Bailey, Maddie Olson, and Alexa Colangelo on defense, and to Eddie Castillo, Paige Reifler, and Kayleigh Jones on offense. The final score was 25-19, 25-15, 21-25, and 25-22, with Dutchess winning the match.
The varsity volleyball team had an outstanding season this year, completing their schedule undefeated with a 7-0 record. The team played as a cohesive unit, with all players contributing to each match. Congratulations to Alexa Colangelo, Kayleigh Jones, Paige Reifler, Eddie Castillo, Delaney Bailey, Aleksa Lambert, Maddie Olson, and Hannah Hill for their well-earned success. Thank you also to all the parents and friends, who supported the team in so many ways this year. It was a blast!

Varsity Basketball v Trinity Pawling played on Monday Feb 23rd, 2009

Our lack of practice has showed tonight once again. Our past 2 games has showed our rustiness out on the court. Trinity beat us by 8 points and it was our second low scoring game of the season. Last game we had last week was our first low scoring game. We should have beaten Trinity Pawling. They are not better than us but sometimes that just happens.
On a happier note John Hill scored his career high tonight with 4 points....way to go!!!! Sean added 4 points, seb added 2, T.J added 2 points going 2 for 2 from the free throw line, Danielle added 4, and Jackson added 2 points as well. we have one more home game on thursday and that will be the last game of the season....It has been a great season!

JV Volleyball game v Rumsey - Monday Feb 9th, 2009

Although the JV volleyball team lost their match against Rumsey on Monday, 2/9/09, they played some of thier best games of the season. The serving improved vastly as every player was able to get their serve over the net as they approached the serving spot. Defense was difficult as we played against the best of Rumsey's Varsity players, but the team worked together to cover the floor and help eachother return the serves. We held our own on the first game barely losing 23 to 25. The final game was 21 to 25. We slipped a bit in the middle and lost 12 to 25. We meet them again next wednesday, 2/18 at our home court. We hope you can come cheer us on!

Varsity Basketball -Dutchess Day School Vs. Washington Montessori

Monday February 2, 2009
Our over all record is now 3 wins and 3 losses....2 coming from Washington Montessori.

50-24
The only improvement facing the bigger and better team was that this time we only lost by 26 point and it was at their home facility. Although we lost the game we played with a lot of heart and hustled out there. Danielle was really aggressive against the bigger better team......she had a good game getting rebounds and scored 4 points. Sean G. paced DDS with 10 points which included one 3 pointer. Matt added 4 points, John added 3 points, Roan added 2 points, and TJ added a point to help DDS. Since John and TJ scored this game it is now official that every player has scored this season. YEAH!

Squash v Indian Mountain School - Wednesday February 4th, 2009

Although we failed to win a match, the DDS team battled bravely against a very accomplished Indian Mountain team. It was a good learning experience for us as Indian Mountain proved more consistent in their play. The two outstanding games of the afternoon, were the 5 setters that Alex and Denny played. Varsity Volleyball Reports

The DDS varsity volleyball team has gotten a good jump on the season with three resounding wins over Rumsey. In the first match of the season, serving was a critical part of the team’s success. Eddie Castillo led the attack with 28 service points, in the course of three games. Hannah Hill finished the final game of the match with five serves in a row. The final tally was 25-10, 25-18, 25-16. In the second match, serving was once again the deciding factor, though Rumsey was tougher this time on defense. Eddie Castillo again served well, with 11 points in two games. He was joined this time by Delaney Bailey, with 7 points, and Alexa Colangelo, with 8 points. The scoring was a real team effort. The end result was 25-14, and 25-18, another Dutchess win. In their third head to head with Rumsey, the teams were more seasoned, and there were some good volleys in each game. DDS had a very balanced scoring attack, with several servers contributing to the score. In the three games played, Paige Reifler had eighteen points, Kayleigh Jones had 14 points, Eddie Castillo had 13 points, and Alexa Colangelo had 12 points. The final scores were 25-10, 25-14, and 25-6, match to DDS. To this point, Dutchess Day is enjoying an undefeated season. Please come out and cheer them on, if you get the chance. It’s nice to play in front of a home crowd.
