Girls Lacrosse Reports

The girl’s lacrosse team began their season with a game against Millbrook School’s junior varsity team. They played hard and stayed with Millbrook goal for goal for the first part of the game, before succumbing to the older team in the second half. Sarah Anthony and Lucy Roemer scored two goals each and Elizabeth Quartararo added one more. Claire Shope did a great job in goal with thirteen saves.
The girl’s played Mizzentop in their second game. Mizzentop came out with sticks blazing and scored four quick goals before DDS recovered and answered with their own scoring. DDS had a well-balanced attack with six players scoring goals; Lucy Roemer had two, Elizabeth Quartararo had two, Grace Howland had one, Sarah Anthony had one, Zoe Wilson had one and Hanna Carlin had one. The game was very evenly matched for much of the game, but DDS couldn’t make up the first four goals they spotted Mizzentop, so the final score was Mizzentop – 13, DDS – 9. Claire Shope also had eleven saves in goal.

Boy’s Lacrosse Plays Two Home Games to Start the Season

The boy’s lacrosse team opened the 2008 season against a very strong Mizzentop club. Mizzentop scored quickly, showing great ball control and crisp passing. After a slow start in the first quarter and down four goals, DDS put a nice offensive attack together later in the first half culminating with a fine goal by Jackson Ryan. The final score was 9-1, but didn’t reflect the improvement shown as the game progressed. The team is made up of 7th graders Jackson Ryan, Christian Marzullo, Golf Kaiya, Matthew Stapylton, Ben Poholchuk, Wynn Erichson, TJ Sayah, Sebastian Barry, and Jon Hill; 6th graders Christian Ouellette, Eddie Castillo, Roan Gideon; and 5th graders Nick Salnikoff and Hugo Wassermann.

The second game saw Indian Mountain School visit DDS on a beautiful Friday afternoon. The team showed great improvement with some crisp passes and better ball movement. Matthew made several key saves in goal and helped keep the score down. Jackson and Christian O. had some chances to score but were unable to convert because of some good saves by the IMS goalie. The final score was IMS 4 and DDS 0, but it was a game marked with good strides by the entire team. Great hustle by Golf and Christian M., good defense by Nick and Eddie made this a good day for the boys. The team travels to Mizzentop on Monday for an early season rematch.

Tennis Report v Millbrook School on Friday April 25

On a beautiful Friday evening our team of singles players Griffin, Shriman, Sean and Caleb, and doubles pairs, Kayleigh & Adrienne, Cooper & Austin and Danielle & Zach, easily beat the Millbrook School's JV Girls team by 5 matches to 1. All wins were by comfortable margins, except for Caleb, who playing for DDS in his first singles game, gave up a 4-2 advantage to eventually lose 6-4 to a very strong opponent. This was a very strong team performance indeed against much older opposition.

Tennis Match v Indian Mountain School on Friday April 18, 2008

On a beautiful sunny afternoon, ideal for playing, and indeed watching tennis, the DDS team fashioned a 7-2 win against Indian Mountain School. In the singles matches Griffin (#1)got us off to a great start winning 6-0 playing the type of tennis that we know he is capable of. Shriman (#2) continued this trend again winning with his patient, consistent style. Kayleigh (#3) and Sean (#4) won 6-4 and 6-0 respectively. Our final two singles games were won by IMS. Adrienne played to a thrilling finale against a very cautious opponent. Having been on the brink of victory with two match points, she finally lost the match 6-5. Sasha struggled to find his form and lost to his very confident opponent 6-1. Our three doubles players all won convincingly.Austin and Cooper (#1) won 6-1, Adam and Caleb (#2) won 6-1 and Danielle with new partner Christie (#3), won 6-3. Great game guys!!

Tennis Match v Kildonan School on Monday April 14, 2008

Playing 15 of our players against their 7 players, was alway going to be a challenge for the DDS team. With time restraints a big factor on their 3 courts, we only played doubles games. Griffin and Shriman, playing at #1, comfortably won their game 6-3. Kayleigh and Adrienne, playing at #2 played the same opposing pair, but found them just a little bit too strong and lost 6-2. Austin had mixed fortunes, beating their pair #2 by 6-3 with Cooper as partner, then teaming up with Adam, losing to another pairing 6-0. Then playing at #5, Danielle and Zach continued their unbeaten run winning 6-4. Then Sasha and Sean at #6 won 6-3. Both teams played their 3rd pair.
Finally, in the two remaining games, which were unfinished due to lack of time, Paige and Maddy were 5-3 down and Charlotte and Christie, 4-0. Overall, it was an enjoyable match but the cold weather made it a little unpleasant!

Tennis Reports v Maplebrook and Rumsey

On Wednesday April 9th, our whole tennis squad participated in the tennis team as we competed against both Maplebrook and Rumsey on the same day. We lost both matches but everyone played and everyone enjoyed the opportunity to to play in the school team.
In the Rumsey game we lost narrowly by 5 games to 4. Kayleigh and Griffin, playing at #1 and #3 respectfully, both lost and were clearly struggling to produce the type of tennis we know them capable of while Shriman, at #2, narrowly won his match in a 6-5 marathon affair. Comfortable wins by Sean at #5 and Adrienne at #4 followed.Possibly the unluckiest player of all was Sasha at #6 who narrowly lost his game 7-5 after a stunning early comeback. Our doubles players competed well but we were overcome by 2 matches to 1 by strong Rumsey opposition. Adam and Caleb were searching for unity losing 6-0, while Cooper and Austin lost narrowly by 6-4.Danielle and Zach completed their game on a high winning the last game of the day to beat their opponents 6-5.
The Maplebrook game on the face of it was a one sided affair with Maplebrook winning all games save one by fairly high scores. However, as Ms. Bettigole reported, our players thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and did not give up a single point easily.
The team consisted of Paige, Maddy, Chalotte, Alexa, Christie, Caitlin, Abby, Heather, Chelsea, Bernadette and Erica. Well done girls!!
