DDS Varsity Basketball Team makes it Three in a Row –DDS-43 Trinity Pawling -32
Trinity Pawling visited DDS on Thursday and brought some talented players to test our veteran team. DDS came out focused, determined and ready to play. The team has been studying and practicing their new sets of plays and it looks like their hard work is paying off. Point guard Griffin Wilson had a tremendous game scoring a DDS career high 29 points and leading the Tigers with precision and confidence. The TP coach told me after the game that Griffin was a terrific point guard. Great job Griffin.
Hudson Kuras and Adam Baker had their hands full on defense with some very good TP players. Adam rose to the occasion defending a larger player, and held his own with good positioning and his usual stalwart determination. Hudson had a very quick point guard to contend with the entire game but he too showed his usual tenacious and tireless defense. Adam added 4 points while Hudson scored 8. Both players were also complimented by the TP coach for their fine play. That is quite an honor when the opposing coach takes the time to compliment our players after the game. Congrats to Hudson and Adam.
DDS employed a tight 2-3 zone defense to clog the middle with Danielle Stamer and Shriman Baba playing their usual and consistent tough defense. Dani added 2 points for the cause. Defense never shows up in the box score but without Dani and Shriman’s unselfish defensive play, the score would certainly have been closer.
Eighth grade super sub Cooper Davis added his usually energetic mix to the team. Cooper is the kind of player that every coach loves to have on his team. No matter what he is doing he does it with great enthusiasm and always for the good of the team. He always keeps me up-to-date on how much time is left, when it is time to press, and who has too many fouls. Just one more thing that doesn’t show up in the box score.
Jackson, Ben, Matthew, Christian and Roan got a chance to feel the pressure of a full court press and learned a great deal about ball control, team communications, and situational awareness. Jackson Ryan showed greatly improved knowledge of his playbook and set some very strong picks for his teammates. It was a great learning experience for our younger players, who are continually working hard and making more and more significant contributions to this very special DDS basketball team. Hurricane DDS has now reached Category II strength and is headed for their next game with Poughkeepsie Day School on Thursday, January 24th. The game is away and starts at 3:30. Please come out and support your DDS Tigers.
