DDS Tennis Defeats Kildonan 4-2

Wednesday, April 29 twelve of the DDS players went to Kildonan to challenge them in tennis. Due to the small number of Kildonan players and available courts, the team was shuffled to make doubles teams out of many of the singles players. The result was success. Jake and Sasha beat won their set 9-7, Charlotte and Danielle won 8-6, Maddie and Paige won 8-2 and Sean played a singles match winning 8-2. The rest of the team also played well and enjoyed a sunny afternoon of tennis. Great job!

Boys Lacrosse v Berkshire Country Day on Wednesday April 29th

Today should have been a day to practice passing and to get the younger players on the scoresheet. We won 13-0 but our teamwork was not in evidence with nearly all of the goals being scored by individuals weaving through younger and smaller opponents. Chris scored 5 goals with Jackson and Pietro getting the bulk of the others. It was good to see Ben on the scoresheet though. The real highlight of the game were the efforts of Nick and Hugo to find their way to goal.They were unsuccessful this time but I am sure they will be finding the net in future games. Roan and Eddie played well and Neil and Carter hustled tirelessly. Hopefully, Berkshire will treat us to their older more experienced team in May. If they do, we had better start playing more as a team or we could face a similar scoreline against us next time!!

Boys Lacrosse v Mizzentop on Monday April 27th

Until the last quarter of the game the scoring had been quite even with DDS matching a strong Mizzentop team goal for goal. It was 6-6 at the end of the 3rd quarter.The goals had come from Eddie, Chris, Jackson and Pietro but they were not enough to prevent 3 more going in for Mizzentop to leave us a 9-6 result. Still the performance was a much improved one, despite the very hot temperatures!

Girls’ Lacrosse vs. Mizzentop April 27, 2009

The DDS girls’ lacrosse team survived an early scare when Mizzentop scored four quick goals at the beginning of the game. Being Tigers, DDS came roaring back with four goals of their own. From this point on, the lacrosse team regrouped and took control of the game, winning 13-8. The scoring effort was shared by four DDS players—Isabel Stack, Hanna Carlin, Elizabeth Quartararo, and Hadley Stack. Ellery Smith took control of the net from our previous goalie, Denison Smythe, who is recovering from an appendectomy. Ellery had four saves, and several deflections, to help shut down the Mizzentop offense. Alexa Colangelo and Aleksa Lambert were fierce on defense and recovered many loose balls to help transition the team into scoring position. Once again, the team played well as a cohesive unit and were successful as a result. DDS will play their next game at IMS on Friday. They welcome all DDS fans to come and cheer them on!

Boys Lacrosse Reports for Mizzentop and Kildonan games

In the game against Mizzentop, we were outplayed by 12 goals to 6. Goals from Jackson and Pietro kept DDS competitive throughout the game.
Our second game against Kildonan was a better result for us and it was good old fashioned teamwork that got the job done with multiple goals from Jackson, Pietro and Christian. In addition, John and Nick scored their first goals of the season.
Our next game is a return game against Mizzentop on Monday April 27th.

Girls Lacrosse v Mizzentop played on Wednesday April 15th

The DDS Girls’ Lacrosse team started their season with an emphatic 13-2 win over Mizzentop . The scoring was truly a team effort, with five players hitting the mark. Hanna Carlin, Elizabeth Quartararo, Isabel Stack, Sophie Perekslis, and Hadley Stack. On the other end of the field, the DDS defense allowed Mizzentop very few scoring opportunities. DDS’s goalie, Denison Smythe, had five solid saves of shots on goal, with several deflections as well. Offensive turnovers to our defense were abundant. The win was a well-balanced team effort, and anticipation is building for promising things to come. Please come out and support the team if you have the chance. Our next home game is on Monday, April 27th versus Mizzentop.

Tennis Match v Rumsey on Wednesday April 15th, 2009

With 6 singles and 3 doubles matches to play against Rumsey, the DDS tennis team fought a bravely but lost 6 - 3. On the singles games we came out evens. Sean and Jake playing at #1 and #2 both won their games quite convincingly 6-2 and 6-4 respectively. Danielle and Charlotte played well but were up against some strong opposition both losing their matches 6-1. Sasha played a very steady game and came out on top 6-2. Finally, Sebastian with a great start 2-2 let the nerves get to him and conceded the next 4 games much too easily!
Although we lost all 3 doubles matches, it was encouraging to see our 3 pairs get games. Both pairings of Zoe and Heather and TJ and Jack played some great tennis at times but were unable to overcome their more experienced opposition. Paige and Maddie came very close, narrowly losing by 7 games to 5.
Overall a brave attempt against very seasoned opposition!

Tennis v Maplebrook played on Wednesday April 8th, 2009

Although we only won one of our games out of 6 matches, it would be fair to say that despite the cold conditions, everyone was able to get an important early season game under their belt. There was indeed some encouraging play from a number of our players. Charlotte and Danielle were up against a very talented pair of older boys, but as a pair they played very well together and look good for some future wins in the the season. Paige and Maddie were certainly affected by the cold conditions but only narrowly lost a thrilling match by 6 games to 5. TJ and Zoe looked set for a win early in their game but were unable to put away their opposition. Heather and Abby were slow to get going in the cold weather but eventually got into their stride only to find themselves too far behind to get back into the game. Chelsea and Bernadette showed that they have improved since last year. however, they played some good opposition and were unable to make a strong impact on the result. Chelsea's serving was excellent though. Finally, Jack and Gavin demonstrated some good solid tennis strokes and ran out comfortable winners in our final match. Well done DDS tennis team for a great set of matches! Our next game is away @ Rumsey on Wednesday April 15th.
