Recent Girls Lacrosse Games

After spending a day working with the Millbrook School girls’ J.V. lacrosse team and catching up with a few former DDS players, the DDS girls’ lacrosse team traveled to IMS to play a young JV team. The experience with Millbrook School proved to be beneficial, as DDS outscored IMS the first half 13-3. In the second half, the team’s younger players got to carry the team offensively, and they rose to the occasion, scoring four of the five second half goals for DDS. Once again, the lacrosse girls worked as a cohesive team, as evidenced by the number of players who scored goals: Isabel Stack, Hanna Carlin, Claudia Lamprecht, Elizabeth Quartararo, Sophie Perekslis, Catarina Moran, and Anna Meyers. The defense, led by Alexa Colangelo, and goalie, Ellery Smith, played their part by holding IMS to four meager goals. The final score was 16-4.
The next stop for the girls’ lacrosse team was Mizzentop, who got stronger each time we played them. This final game with them was a hard-fought competition, with many battles for the ball, and some very resounding checking. Throughout the contest DDS players kept their cool, and continued to play their own style game of passing and supporting each other. As a result, their walked away with a 9-2 win. Kudos to Ellery Smith, who stayed strong in goal, with four saves, despite nursing an injury, and not feeling well.
The girls’ played their final game of the season at home, versus IMS. Although they had won their previous game by a large margin, the team realized the IMS is never a team to take lightly. If they had any doubt of this, it was dispelled when IMS scored three quick unanswered goals in the first two minutes of the game. Not to be deterred, DDS came back shooting. Once again, five different players contributed goals to the cause—Elizabeth Quartararo, Hanna Carlin, Isabel Stack, Aleksa Lambert, and Sophie Perekslis. Alexa Colangelo was ferocious on defense, forcing many turnovers. Claudia Lamprecht and Catarina Moran recovered many loose balls to begin the team’s scoring drives. Ellery Smith also recovered quickly after IMS’s first three goals, to rack up six saves in goal. The final score was DDS- 18, IMS- 8. A special thanks too, to Will Stack, Ben Meyers, and Stillman Smith for being gracious DDS hosts and refilling water bottles for IMS during the game.
This season has really proven what a small group of dedicated individuals can do when they learn how to play as a cohesive unit, especially when they also have the drive to excel. This is what took the DDS girls’ lacrosse team from a “no win” season last year, to an undefeated season this year. Thank you girls for making it a memorable, and thoroughly enjoyable experience. A special thanks as well, to our team captains, Hanna Carlin and Elizabeth Quartararo, for stepping up and taking their leadership role seriously.
I would also like to thank all the parents who provided snacks (and Mr. Pink for arranging that), those who came out and supported the team, and all who committed their time to make this team happen. Finally, a huge thank you to Mrs. Ackers, for all your help and input. Without it, the season would not have been as wonderful. Congratulations DDS Girls’ Lacrosse…..GO TIGERS!!
