JV Soccer v Steiner School on Friday, September 26, 2008
The DDS JV soccer team gave it their all Friday against the strong players on the Steiner team. DDS players braved the forecasted rain and went out on the field full throttle. They showed a real team effort, passing at every opportunity and hustling up and down the field. Steiner’s players had the advantage of beating DDS to the ball on many accounts, but they pushed our team to play their best. It was rough work for goalies Nick and Jake, but they stayed on their toes. Late in the game, Ben continued to push the ball up and Neil was able to make it to the goal for us, making the final score 6 – 1 for Steiner School. The game ended in rain, defeat and lessons learned. DDS will be practicing hard this week to get ready for their next match.
JV Soccer v Indian Mountain School on Friday, September 19, 2008
The DDS JV soccer team started this season with a bang! Within the first minutes of play, Neil had already put one in goal. IMS played with excellent skill, but DDS kept a strong defense with an incredible mount of work from sixth grader Chelsea. Rookie goalie Henry did a stand up job as goalie in the first half, with Neil in goal for he second half. Fifth graders Ellie, Ana, Samantha and Gavin hustled on the field getting in the mix and kept the ball with the offense. Henry, Jake and Melina all scored goals, with an additional goal from Neil. Carter and Alex showed us some power behind their kicks, getting the ball out of range from our goal. For a first game, this team showed excellent sportsmanship and camaraderie and really came together as a team, a trend that will no doubt continue and improve throughout the season. The final score for the match, 5 – 0 for DDS.
