Thursday afternoon, February 7, Poughkeepsie Day School’s JV basketball team came a calling – all 22 of them! This was our best game of the season… so far! The difference between this and previous games was easy to see – selfless play through excellent passing. We tripled the number of assists including players who had never recorded an assist this season. And an amazing 10 of the 12 players on the team scored!
Nick Salnikoff benefited from beautiful assist from Maggie Dull for two points and had his second after an offensive rebound in a forest of arms. Sebastian continues to drive hard to the hoop scoring six points off close range shots. Sean Gorwara is a triple threat off the dribble, from the outside and now as a dangerous passer. He coupled six points with two delicate assists. Matt Pelletier improved his vision on the court by assisting on one basket and slashing to the tin on a breakaway two pointer. Nick Akst is a force inside always with his high-handed board work resulting in three buckets adding to his bushel of points this season. A determined David Akst arched a floating swisher for two of his points from the baseline late in the game bring a smile from ear to ear to his face. Jon Hill was one of our assist leaders as he looks to broaden his skills as a leading winger. TJ Sayah inspired the team by throwing down one of the few frees throws the team has made this year. Alex Quartararo is slashing, dishing and even swishing as he scored four points and added more assists to his team-leading total. And last of all our savvy point guard Taylor Digilio led the team with eight points and had one assist as he shucks and jives through defenses on his way to finding an open shot.
It was a fun afternoon as we saw improvement in our team play, in our ever-present energy and in our victory over PDS.
