Girls Lacrosse Team 2008

Tennis Match v Maplebrook starts with a promise but the weather has the last say!

Having experienced the disappointment of two cancelled matches already, the DDS Tennis team were looking forward to playing Maplebrook School with some of our younger players making only their second appearance in the team. It was also exciting for me as these players have made so much progress this year, and I knew they would be playing some great tennis. Due to an early start,some matches were able to be completed. Sean won 6-3 against his 18 year old opponent, Danielle coolly dispatched her opponent 6-2 and Maddy and Paige won a very exciting match 6-4. Both Sasha and Zach were leading in games when the downpour occurred, as too were Charlotte and Alexa in a very tight doubles match. Unfortunately, no-one else got much of a look-in as the heavens opened and put paid to all our aspirations! Never mind, we still have Wlmbledon Wednesday next week for our players to show their metal, this time against parents and staff. Strawberries and ice-cream for all!!

On Wednesday May 28th, we will be having our annual Wimbledon Strawberries and Ice Cream Parents/Staff v Students Match. If any staff or parents wish to play, please let me know as soon as possible. It starts as close to 3:30 p.m. as possible at the Millbrook Golf and Tennis Club. You will need a racket and you must wear all whites!

Tennis Report v Rumsey School on Thursday May 15th, 2008

The DDS Tennis team showed just how good it is this year by an emphatic victory over Rumsey School. In the singles matches, there were wins for Griffin (6-1), Sean (6-3), Sasha (6-2) and Adrienne (7-6) who won a very close final tie break game by 7 points to 5. Both Shriman and Kayleigh lost very close games to good opponents 6-4 and 7-5 respectively. Cooper and Austin won a comfortable 6-2 playing at #1 doubles, while Danielle and Zach narrowly lost out in a very exciting tie break to lose 7-6. Caleb and Adam lost by 6 games to 5 in another very close match. It is always nice to beat a Rumsey team!

Tennis Report v Kildonan on Monday May12th, 2008

Playing 6 singles and 3 doubles games, DDS easily won this second encounter against Kildonan School.In singles games, Griffin, Shriman, Kayleigh and Adrienne all won 6-1 while Sean beat his opponent 6-0 In doubles play, both pairs of Danielle and Zach and Caleb and Sasha won 6-3. Austin and Cooper playing in the days most exciting game won 7-6 in a tie break.

Tennis report v Washington Montessori on Monday May 5th, 2008

On a beautuful Monday afternoon, our tennis team totally dominated Washington Montessori School this year winning all 9 games by very comfortable margins. The results were as follows:

Singles
Griffin won 6-1
Shriman won 6-1
Kayleigh won 6-1
Adrienne won 6-0
Sean won 6-0

Doubles
Austin/Cooper won 6-0
Caleb/Adam won 6-1
Danielle/Zach won 6-1
Paige/Charlotte won 6-2

In two additional games played, Sasha won 6-4 and Maddy and Heather lost 6-0

DDS Girls' Lacrosse reports by Ms. Schoch

In a hard-fought, aggressive game, the girls' lacrosse team lost to Mizzentop last Wednesday. Six DDS players scored the team's ten goals---Lucy Roemer, Zoe Wilson, Grace Howland, Sarah Anthony, Denison Smythe, and Isabel Stack. Sophie Perekslis, Hadley Stack, Elizabeth Quartararo, and Aleksa Lambert also lent their support on offense. Claire Shope did an excellent job in goal, with twenty one saves. She had good support from Sawyer Ryan and Maggie Dull on defense.

On Monday, the team played Millbrook School. At the start of the game, DDS jumped out ahead with three unanswered goals, before Millbrook started to fight their way back into the game with hustling, scrappy play. The Tigers had several opportunities to score, but Millbrook's goalie was on fire, and turned back the DDS attack. Even so, five DDS players were able to find the net. Scoring for the Tigers were Lucy Roemer, Zoe Wilson, Sarah Anthony, Isabel Stack, and Elizabeth Quartararo. Hadley Stack and Hannah Hill assisted the offense with many recoveries of missed shots. Hanna Carlin, Sawyer Ryan, and Denison Smythe played tough on defense against Millbrook's strong and bigger players.
