JV Soccer Report v Rumsey on Friday November 9th 2007
The JV Soccer Team concluded their season with a loss to a very talented Rumsey team 5-1. Alex scored our lone goal unassisted after dribbling around a number of Rumsey's defensive players. The defense played strong and never let us down but the Rumsey team had some very skillful players. On an extremely positive note the JV Team had a most improved season over last year. Nine different players scored this year. They were; Christian, Isabel, Chloe, Taylor, Matthew, Alex, Sean, Andrew, and Nick. Each of those players also assisted in goals as did Caitlin. The team scored a total of 29 goals and only allowed 25. Alex and Andrew shared most of the time in goal and did extremely well. Of those 25 goals, 9 were scored by Rumsey in our two meetings. The team finished with a very respectable record of 5 wins, 5 losses, and 1 tie.
Thank-you parents for sharing your children with me. Thank-you Coach B for your assistance this season. And thank-you Coach Pink for asking me back! I really enjoyed myself and saw much improvement over the season. It was GREAT FUN.

DDS Varsity Soccer Report v Oakwood School on Friday November 9th
As usual, Oakwood School did not field a very strong side, and with this being our eighth graders last game for their school, it was a challenge to keep them all on the field and to keep the score respectable. It was also a goal of ours to get some more players on the scoresheet, and this was in fact done with the tremendous support of our more experienced players. It was Caleb who opened the scoring for DDS early in the game with a well struck shot from about 10 yards out, low into the net. It was in fact his first goal for the team which is surprising as he confidently dispatched his shot with power and accuracy! Hudson, and then Griffin, each scored a goal apiece and to be truthful, these two experienced campaigners could have added a few more to their individual tally, if it wasn't for the fact that they were trying so hard to get others in for goal! At half time, the score was 3-1. Kayleigh, who had been doing an excellent job once more on the right flank, had to leave. In the second half we got off to a great start when Austin struck a decisive shot into the goal for his second one this year. Roan also got his second for the year, a special one for him as he now has scored with both left and right feet! However, the stage was set for Adrienne, desperate to get her name on the team sheet before the game was over. And this she did, as the ball fell kindly to her in the penalty area and she struck it confidently with her left foot low into the corner of the net! 6-1 DDS. The drama was not yet over. Alexa, playing forward out of her normal position, came close to getting another. Then we had a penalty! Up stepped Cooper to try for his best opportunity to score a goal for the team before the season finished. However, it was not to be as he saw his effort slide past the wrong side of the left hand upright. Tough luck Cooper! Still, he should be proud of the way he has played overall this season, as can the rest of the team. Even so, this day belonged to our eighth graders who have served this team so well over this and past seasons. We wish them luck in their new schools next year!!

Honors even at Staff/Parent v School Soccer Match
They came to play! They came to win! Both teams put all that they had in to this popular event which saw a dramatic last gasp equalizer by Hudson, saving the blushes of a school team that has got used to success this season! Little did the students know, that before the game, the S/P team were busy preparing their secret plan, and what a plan it was too....Operation Launch Mr. Blakeley! Early in to the first half, Mr Blakeley struck with a fine angled shot in to the corner of the net. He wasn't finished there as he continued to threaten the school defense with his dynamic speed and clinical finishing. This goal equalised a fine effort by Hudson who blasted past a bewildered Linda Bhangdia in goal. Linda by the way was playing very well at this time! 1-1 and all to play for. The S/P defense were doing a fine job. Marshalled by the ever athletic Mrs Bettigole, Ms Roberts, Ms Schoch and Mrs Hathaway were giving nothing away and Ms Ackers was running her socks off in midfield! Mark Kuras was also doing a fine job up front keeping the school team on their toes. Before long, the school team were in the lead after Griffin found himself free in the box and hit the ball hard into the net. Game on!! At last all Mark Kuras's work paid off and with the energetic running of Margaret Colangelo to assist him, he drove the ball beautifully into the net from short range. This seemed to spur Mr. Blakely on and taking a crisp pass from midfield, he crashed a hammer shot into the roof of the net. This lead to a frantic last few minutes which eventually saw Hudson's equalizer and second goal of the game, scream past the outstretched hands of Mrs Yager! A 3-3 tie and a good game was had by all!
Varsity Soccer Report v Washington Montessori School on Wednesday November 7th
This evenly matched game was finally settled in the last 10 minutes of the game when Washington Montessori bundled in a close range shot after some sustained pressure on the DDS goal, making the score 3-2 for Washington Montessori. On a cold crisp afternoon, the game started well for us and Hudson netted from a Kayleigh cross early in the first half. The score was soon 1-1 when after some heroic goalkeeping by Daniel, a loose ball managed to slip under her body and into the net. In the second half, a lot more goals could and should have been scored by both sides. There was some desperate defending at times by the DDS defense, but lead by Roan and some terrific covering by Alexa, the team held on. However, Washinton Montessori did manage to score, when one of their forwards was allowed to advance unhindered and crack a fine shot in to the back of the net. Regaining the initiative however, DDS hit back and Griffin soon equalised with a firm drive in to the bottom corner of the WM net. Playing well in the second half, was Adrienne who made some great passes with the midfield and her fellow forwards. Overall, we played well but were unable to score the goals that would have secured the victory. Two games are now left on our calendar: Parent/Staff game today (Thursday) at 3:30 p.m. and V Oakwood tomorrow (Friday) starting at 3:15 p.m. Don't forget the pizza party afterwards in the Dining Hall at approx 4:30 p.m.

JV Soccer Report @ Home v Washington Montessori School
The JV Soccer Team lost to Washington Montessori School on Monday afternoon 4-1. DDS started the scoring with a nice long pass from Nick up the center of the field that Christian controlled on the bounce and lofted it over the keepers hands. From then on DDS just couldn't seem to finish. The team did put together some nice pass combinations and had numerous shots on goal. Friday will end the season with a home game against Rumsey, followed by a pizza party. Please get your money into Coach Pink or myself ASAP. Thanks

DDS BASKETBALL SEASON IS ALMOST HERE
The official DDS basketball season will not start until Monday, November 26th, but a great deal has been going on behind the scenes to get ready for that day.
Joining the team this year will be Mr. Cissel, who takes over as coach of JV team. Joining Mr. Cissel and Coach Ouellette will be Mr. Mark Kuras. Mr. Kuras will work with our guards this year, leaving off where Coach Zanardi did last year. We will even have a guest appearance from Coach Zanardi sometime in January 2008.
The team has a very strong group of veteran players returning to the hardwood this season. They include Griffin, Hudson, Cooper, Austin, Adam, Shriman, Sebastian, Jon, Ben, Jackson, Danielle, Matthew, Christian, Roan, Zach and TJ, who has decided to play this year instead of being the team manager.
We are excited to welcome to our program a great 5th grade class that includes Andrew, Taylor, Maggie, Sean, Nick, David, Nicholas, and Matthew. It is a pleasure to have this talented class join our team. Welcome 5th graders.
The team is looking for anyone interested in being a scorekeeper for the varsity and JV teams and also for a clock operator for our home games. We will teach you everything you need to know, so contact Mr. Pink or Mr. Ouellette if you are interested.
The preseason starts on Monday, November 12th with a meeting of all players in the Bontecou Gym from 3:30–4:30PM. This is a required meeting for all players. Parents will meet at 4:30PM for an overview of the season.
One week later, on Monday, November 19th all the players will attend a basketball camp from 3:30PM-5PM in the Bontecou Gym. This is when the JV and varsity teams will be chosen. These are the only required meetings for the basketball players before the Thanksgiving break.
The season officially starts on Monday, November 26th from 3:30-5PM in the Bontecou gym. I hope everyone is looking forward to a great season.

Varsity Soccer Report for game v Trinity Pawling School on Friday November 2nd
Trinity Pawling came to this game with 13 select players and with determination to overturn the only team to have beaten them this year. They started the game strongly and by mid-way into the second half had built up a lead of 3 goals to 0. This scoreline certainly did not reflect a dominance on their part, only an inability on ours to convert the number of chances that were falling our way. Danielle had another superb half in goal and was unlucky to concede the one goal on her watch! Without Roan at the back and Hudson in midfield we started the game very sluggish and did not put the TP players under much pressure. Golf and Christian were very solid in the middle at the back and the midfield were working hard to obtain and keep possession. THe fightback started with an opportunist goal from Griffin who turned on the volley and sent a low shot into the far corner of the net. It was Griffin who scored a close range second and Jackson who cracked a firce shot into the roof of the net to equalise. With less than two minutes to go, Christian was forced to go off injured and TP capitalized on a moment of madness in defense to ram home the winner. The initial disappointment could be felt around the team, having come back so strongly. However, I have to say that I was extremely proud of the way these guys fought back from a 3 goal deficit. WEll done DDS!! Next game away at Washington Montessori on Wednesday November 7th. (Don't forget there is no practce on Monday November 5th due to Staff/Parents v School Hockey Match HOO DA DA!
JV Soccer Report for away game v Steiner on Thursday November 1st
The JV Soccer Team controlled the play of the game Thursday and defeated Steiner 1-0. The offense put many shots on goal, into the hands of the keeper, just over the crossbar or just wide. Finally Sean connected a short pass to Christian who found the far corner of the net. Nice work boys. The team has been working on holding their postions and connecting passes and did an excellent job of it during this game.
I apologize for the late hour of return. We started the game late due to wrong directions that both the bus driver and I had. Then the Steiner coach wanted to wait for an official. No official came. Finally at the conclusion of the game we wanted to get started as quickly as possible and planned on phoning while on the bus. Not a great plan since there is no cell reception in that area. Both the bus driver and I were without cell for a good 20-30 minutes. Sorry.
Finally a reminder that we have two more games. Our last game is next friday and we are planning a little pizza party celebration after the game. Each player needs to bring in $5 to cover the cost. Please send in the money ASAP. Thanks.

Field Hockey Report v Mizzentop School on Thursday November 1st
The varsity field hockey team defeated Mizzentop on Thursday, with a score of 2-0. 8th grade Captain, Gracie Howland tore up the field for the entire 60 minutes of play. Our other Captain, Sarah Anthony, caught Mizzentop's goalie on her heels and put a shot into the lower right corner within the first 5 minutes of play.
After half time, the lady Tigers came back onto the field with authority, and 6th grader Sophie Perekslis added another goal to the lower left corner. 7th grade goalie, Hanna Carlin saved 2 AMAZING shots in the second half, keeping the Tigers ahead from start to finish.
The varsity field hockey team has had an absolutely AWESOME season. Our last game is HOME on Wednesday, November 7 at 3:15pm. We hope to see you all out there cheering us on! In the words on Mr. Pink, HOOO-DA! Don't forget parents, the game against the students is on Monday November 5th starting at 3:30 p.m. DeleteReplyForwardSpamMove...

Varsity Soccer Report v Steiner School on Thursday November 1st
The final score of 4-4 in this game reflected an exciting but frustrating game which had the DDS parent supporters wondering just what we had to do in order to get the ball in to the back of the net. Sure we scored 4, but it should have been many more as chance after chance went perilously close. To be fair to Steiner, they had some very good players, one in particular who continuously threatened our defense with his skill and prolific shooting. The fact that he scored all four goals was a tribute to his talent! Having said this, for most of the game our defenders handled him well and were superb in covering each other at times. Every time they scored, we equalised but were unable to get our noses in front. Hudson worked diligently and effectively in midfield and Griffin was continuously looking to set up the forwards for shooting chances. In fact, it was Griffin who equalised their first goal with a firm shot into the corner. In the meantime, we were unable to capitalize on a number of shooting opportunities and the score remained 1-1. Again their no. 9 broke the deadlock but DDS hit straight back with a fine shot from Kayleigh in to the corner of the net. It was Kayleigh again in the second half who scored our third goal. Jackson had alot to do with this goal, skillfully driving the ball back from the goal line into Kayleigh's path. Adrienne too was playing well on the wing. Finally with ten minutes to go, and 4-3 down, Sebastian netted from close range to seal the tie. With still time left, DDS went for the win, but were unable to get that much needed goal. Tomorrow (Friday), we play Trinity Pawling at home..3:30 p.m. start.
